NX-D doesn't affect the NEF file at all.įor serious editing I use lightroom I just prefer the standard sharpening and colours in Capture and even though I have a D800 I can use the D810 profiles which add extra features. a) batch convert to jpg Export, set parameters, Convert & more importantly b) make a much better job of knowing what the camera's settings were supposed to be than any 3rd party app. I stopped using it for NEFs as it actually saves the changes in the original NEF and the files grow quite a lot in size. If you use Nikon's own ViewNX-i available for free from Nikon it can Link edited to hopefully now always find the latest version. I use viewnx2 when sorting pictures and also to do simple edits to jpegs as it automatically saves the files to a backup folder. I like View over Capture NX-D, but I have each on my desktop. I wasn't sure that View NX2 was still available. Its easy enough to download the latest version which does. Try using view-NXi and Capture-NXD but you may get the same failure messages. The OP may not have the version that supports the 5500, if that is the case the only option is Capture NX-D. If an image whose long edge is shorter than specified is selected, its image size remains the same after the conversion.View NX2 is supposed to support the D5500 (as documented on Nikons website and in the D5500 manual) so I don't know why it fails.
